You obviously will be trying to find ways to stop hands from sweating and there are a number of ideas as to how you can do this and I will go into those a little later in this article.

If your hands do literally drip with sweat it could be that you are suffering from that medical condition known as Palmar Hyperhidrosis [sweaty palms to you and me].

Excessive hand sweating can be due to nerves, stress, or any number of medical conditions. However, not everyone who suffers hand sweating has other problems, perfectly healthy people can have this sweat problem.

The obvious solution is to keep drying your hands off, using a towel or tissues etc. but this does nothing to stop the sweat from forming. You can use products to absorb the sweat such as talcum, cornstarch and medicated powders which you can buy over the counter but you need something more to actually stop hands from sweating.

Products such as antiperspirants which contain Aluminum Chloride will help in this direction, the Aluminum Chloride actually stops hands and feet from sweating by plugging up the pores.

I believe that your doctor can actually prescribe antiperspirants which can be taken orally, but these would be on prescription. The only drawback to these may be that you will end up with a dry mouth [as well as dry hands!].

Relief can be obtained short term by running your wrists under cold water for a few minutes or washing your hands also with cold water and soap.

I have even heard it said that you can hypnotize yourself into having dry hands. You just need to face your mirror and repeat the following phrase out loud around three times a day with ten repeats. You need to say “I used to have sweaty hands but now they are dry”. It may take several weeks for this to take effect.

I personally have not tried this but I can believe that it would be a case of mind over matter, I am sure it could do no harm and it could do some good.

There are a couple of natural oils which you can use to stop hands from sweating, as well as being totally natural they are inexpensive. The names of these are Geranium Oil and Cypress Oil. You will need to use them frequently but they are a good natural option.

Have you considered whether your excessive hand sweating is due to your blood pressure being high? If you are suffering from increased blood pressure then naturally you will be working to get that down and if this is the case, the hand sweating should stop when your blood pressure is under control.

If you are unsure as to the reason for your sweating hands then you should consult your doctor before you embark on a self-imposed regime.

The question of treatment obviously depends on the severity of your condition.  If the sweating only happens now and again then you should be able to get rid of it reasonably easily just using things like medicated powders, antiperspirants, etc.

There are some essential oils which can be very useful, have you tried Geranium Oil?  You should be able to get this easily from health food stores.  It only needs a thin film on your palms, then let it dry naturally.  You will find that once the oil has soaked into your skin you should experience a drying effect straight away, accompanied by a nice smell.

Cypress Oil is a very useful oil from the Mediterranean Cypress tree.  Not only is it refreshing and astringent, it has a calming effect.  Use it in the same way as the Geranium Oil.  As Cypress Oil has around 10% alcohol content this means it evaporates quickly and helps dry your palms.

If you have a severe case of hand sweating then obviously you are going to have to tackle the problem a bit more aggressively.

If your sweating is severe and occurs regardless of the conditions, then you may have a medically recognized condition known as Hyperhidrosis.  If this is so then you are going to need to approach your treatment differently.

I think that most people know about Botox injections and how they are used to cure wrinkles, but did you know that they can be used on the palms of your hands to stop hand sweat?  It is effective, but can eat into your cash flow because you need to take the treatment twice a year.

Regular surgery can be quite invasive when used to stop palm sweating.  It does work, there is no gainsaying that, but what it does do is result in side effects which are ‘compensatory sweating’, that is sweating starting up somewhere else on your body.  A case of jumping out of the frying pan into the fire I would say.

There is a 50-year old procedure which is neither invasive nor surgical.  This is called Iontophoresis and involves immersing your hands [or feet] into a pan of water through which a small electrical current is passed.

This procedure requires 20-minute sessions every day for the first week, after that only once every three weeks.  Not too complicated or time consuming especially if you get rid of sweaty hands.

This procedure is not painful and it really does work.  You will achieve dry hands, you will efficiently stop hand sweat.  The commercial device can be expensive but you can make your own version quite cheaply and that doesn’t affect the way it works to stop hand sweating at all – you will definitely achieve dry palms.

I have to say here that if you are pregnant or a nursing mother, don’t use this method.  If you have any metal implants, have cardiac problems or epilepsy, Iontophoresis is not for you.  You should also take care to remove any jewelry you are wearing before you start the treatment, and if you have any cuts or wounds of any kind they should be well covered up.

I have read lately of a quite new treatment which involves the suction removal of around 30% of the sweat glands, a similar procedure to liposuction – this appears to be quite effective.

There is also something else, called Percutaneous Sympathectomy, this involves the sympathetic nerve being blocked by an injection of phenol, but although you will get relief it will only be temporary.

As you can see there are so many different methods available to you to stop hand sweat, it will be a job to decide which to go for.  Perhaps you should compile a list and work your way through them until you find something that really works for you.

I think that natural remedies should be your first consideration when you are trying to make your hands stop sweating.

Think first of all of items you could already have in your kitchen that could be useful.

White vinegar, half a cup to 1 quart of water, immerse your hands in this solution for 20-25 minutes every second day.  Be sure to wash your hands when you have finished, you don’t want to smell like salad dressing!

Tea can also be a good thing to use, again, soak your hands in some tea which has been cooled down, for 10-15 minutes a day.  This works but possibly not for everbody.  It’s a case of trial and error with all natural remedies to make hands stop sweating.

You could try drinking Sage tea, a glass of cooled tea per day should give you some reduction in the amount of sweat on your hands, in fact all over your body.

Relaxation techniques may work for you, perhaps aromatherapy.  You may find lavender oil helps.

Caffeine is no good at all if you have an excessive sweat problem, including the palms of your hands.  Try if you can, to wean yourself off the caffeine.

Smoking is another occupation which doesn’t help the problem.

A good balanced diet is important for all sorts of reasons to do with your health.  If you eat many foods high in iodine content, such as beef, turkey, liver, broccoli and white onions, to name a few – cut them down.

You also need to cut down drastically the amount of animal fats you consume.

Always try to drink at least 3 liters of water a day.  This intake of water should help you regulate your sweat levels.  When you find yourself getting more sweaty just drink some more water.

The difficulty with sweating palms is that it can cause a lot of problems in the workplace for some people.  If your job involves handling small objects for instance, and your hands are all wet and slippery – potential accident just waiting to happen!

This doesn’t just apply to the workplace, what about in your home?  The kitchen for instance – how do you cope handling sharp knives?  How can you hold a pan, perhaps full of boiling water?  or hot fat?  You can see what I am getting at?  All the potentially bad situations that can arise through your hands being wet.  You definitely need to make your hands stop sweating so much somehow.

If you feel that your sweating is way above normal then you should see your doctor, it could well be a symptom of some other condition in your body.

Excessive sweating is known as Hyperhidrosis medically, and when it is the palms of the hands then it is known as Palmar Hyperhidrosis.  If you find you are suffering this condition then it is going to take something stronger than talcum powder or ordinary antiperspirants to help you make your hands stop sweating.

You can use an antiperspirant on your hands to give a short term relief.  It should contain aluminum chloride, but do not overdo the use of this product as aluminum chloride can build up in your system and be harmful.

When you are dealing with this sweating problem and you really need to make your hands stop sweating, don’t expect a cure overnight.  Whichever method or product you choose, give them all a decent trial before you decide to move on to the next thing.

Keep experimenting and sooner [hopefully] rather than later you will find something that works for you.

It may raise a laugh when sweaty hands are mentioned but it is no joke to those who suffer in this way.

People are always desperately on the lookout for ways to get their hands to stop sweating.

There is one cure, although it might at first appear quite dramatic, but is proving increasingly popular.  The process is about having a shallow dish of water into which you place your hands [or feet incidentally] and a small electrical current is passed through the water.

How this works to get your hands to stop sweating is because this electrical charge makes minerals in the water react in such a way that they provide a barrier round your hands and this works by stopping any excess sweat from escaping.

This treatment has an 80% success rate but can be a bit time consuming in that you need to spend 30-45 minutes every second day, at least in the beginning.  After that you can reduce the treatment down to weekly.  This does not give you a permanent cure but it does work temporarily very well.

One person I read about uses this Iontophoresis treatment and has found it to be very successful.  They only used it in 20 minute sessions for the first week then once every three weeks and achieved dry palms as a result.

If you have heard of Botox you may think that this is only a non-surgical face lift sort of thing, but Botox can be used in many ways.

One way it can be used to help excessive sweating, especially to get your hands to stop sweating, would be to have Botox injections into the palms of your hands.  This is expensive $600-$700 per treatment.  This treatment should last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year.

Excessive sweating, or any kind of sweating for that matter, which affects your hands can be a big social drawback.  If you only suffer mildly from this sweating you only need to be able to wipe them dry, or blow on them to evaporate the moisture.  If however, your sweating is brought on by anxiety for instance then you need another type of cure.

If you get anxious in certain situations, being among people you don’t know, going for job interviews etc. you may need something like an anti-depressant drug to help you control your anxiety.  Not a good thing to have to depend on permanently, but at certain times perhaps this medication would be beneficial.

If you think all the other treatments I have mentioned are a bit over the top for you, try just using an antiperspirant on your palms, this works in your armpits, why wouldn’t it work on your hands? However, you should always check that it contains aluminum chlorohydrate because this is the crucial drying agent.

Sweating as I said before is no joke.  It can make you afraid to mix with people in case you have to shake someone’s hand.  The more you shrink from mixing the less you will want to mix.  You need to get this problem sorted and fast, don’t let your life shrivel away into nothingness because of excess moisture on your hands.

You probably have problems with work as well, whatever your job.  If you work in an office I imagine handling papers is not easy.  If you have to type on a keyboard are you slipping ahd sliding around?  If you work in a supermarket handling other people’s market goods, are you conscious of leaving wetness behind when you have handled something?  If you work with fabrics of any sort, that is more than likely to present a real problem, you cannot afford sweat stains on materials.

Even driving your car can be a bit problematic.  You probably always have to wear gloves to stop your hands slipping around the steering wheel – this could lead to a dangerous situation.

If you are an artisan and work with tools, this could be a potentially dangerous situation. You wouldn’t want a chisel to slip from your hands and possibly chop your toes off !!

I would advise you never to use any kind of powder on your palms, not baby powder, not medicated powder – no powder at all.  All this will do is get caked on your hands and you will end up in a complete mess.

It has been pointed out that altering your diet can go some way to helping you get rid of sweaty hands.  You should try to cut down on your consumption of foods containing iodine, i.e. broccoli, white onions, asparagus, liver, turkey and beef.  Drinking sage tea can also help you with your sweaty hands problem.

As well as drinking the tea you could soak your hands in the solution daily and the tannic acid could help, but only if you are suffering a mild case of hand sweating.

You will find that there is quite a lot of choice of treatments available for sweaty hands and it is down to the individual to try whatever they think will work for them.  Your choice will depend on the severity of the problem, naturally, but I am sure that you will find something that will work well for you.

I definitely cannot bring myself to recommend surgery because it seems such a problematic, not to say downright dangerous route to take.  It can cure your hand sweating, but then you find sweating has started up somewhere else on your body.  What a waste of time and money.

Have you perhaps overlooked some of the more simple methods to make hands stop sweating?  Do you for instance try to wash your hands often, mostly in cool/cold water?

Have you tried rubbing cornstarch or talcum on your hands?  Granted this is only a temporary measure but one that doesn’t present a problem when you need to repeat it.  The cornstarch or talcum can soak up any excess sweat and help to keep your hands dry for some time.

Have you tried rubbing Geranium oil or Cypress oil on your palms?  This too can be effective and you can carry the oil about with you to repeat when necessary.

Have you tried an antiperspirant product containing aluminum chloride?  This should work well because over time, the aluminum chloride can actually shrink the sweat glands and this will diminish the amount of sweat produced.

Have you ever come across a preparation used by sportspeople which you paint on your hands as a liquid but which dries to a powder?  This sounds like another good short term solution.

Have you heard about Iontophoresis?  This involves running a small electrical current through water.  You simply keep your hands in the water daily for 30-45 minutes for the first week.  The electrical current causes a reaction with the minerals in the water and this forms a barrier round your hands to avoid letting any sweat escape.

To buy the commercial product you could expect to pay around $1000, but it is possible for you to formulate one of your own quite easily and inexpensively.  The home-made one will work just as well for you.

Do you know why you are sweating so much?  Are you carrying any extra weight?  Do you suffer from high blood pressure?  Are you going through the menopause?  Do you eat too much animal fat in your diet?  Do you take enough exercise?

The whys and wherefores are numerous, but then so are the solutions.
